Big Stone Gap, Va.-Alton Arthur Smith, Sr., 64, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Lonesome Pine Hospital.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Al, as he was affectionately known, had lived in Big Stone Gap for the past 30 years. He was a maintenance worker for area shopping centers, where he could be seen late in the evenings cleaning parking lots of their litter. Al was very outgoing and never met a stranger but most importantly, he was a devoted husband and father.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sherry D. (Gibson) Smith; and his parents, Ernest Ray and Lethia Marie (Dean) Smith.
Al is survived by a daughter, Amanda Blanton (Clint), Big Stone Gap; sons, Alton Smith, Jr. and Brandon Smith, both of Big Stone Gap, and Corey Smith, Church Hill, Tn.; grandchildren, Brennan Blanton, Gabby Blanton, Allie Blanton, Madison Smith and Elliot Smith; and a brother, Terry Smith, Atlanta, Ga.
