Big Stone Gap, Va.-Benny Lee Givens, 71, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, Ky.
He was born in Sneedville, Tenn. He was an extremely proud coal miner of 50 years and worked for Alpha Metallurgical Resources as a Safety Boss at the Deep Mine 41.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearl Evans; and his grandparents, who raised him, John and Mary Givens.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Givens; son, Josh Givens; step-daughters, Sierra Giles (Jarrod) and Genay King (Jade); granddaughters, Jasie Giles and Nova Adams; sisters, Brenda Sturgill of Georgia, Robyn and Michael Utt of Alabana, Sherry and Chris Ramsey and Darla Lamb, both of Indiana, and Donna and Ray Young of Kentucky; one uncle, Dallas and Virginia Givens of Illinois; a host of nieces and nephews; and several co-workers he considered brothers.
