Betty A. Bass

Big Stone Gap, VA-Betty Ann Bass, 77, passed away on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at her home.
Born in Newport News, Va., she lived in Big Stone Gap since 1968. Betty worked for over 50 years with Wise Concrete, Marty Materials and McClure Concrete. Her coworkers coveted Betty’s skills and friendship throughout the years. She loved working with ceramics, selling Avon and playing the piano in church. She was a member and past-pastor’s wife at Gate City Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Rev. Samuel “Sammy” Bass, Sr.; and her mother, Mattie Jane Sifford.
Surviving are her children, Samuel Bass, Jr. (Robin), Big Stone Gap, Deedra “Dee” Vengchiem (Kesone), Jonesborough, Tn. and Sherry Harris (Billy), Big Stone Gap; two grandchildren, Connor William Vengchiem and Noah Alexander Bass; two Godsons, Matthew and Butch Kelley; brother, Chris Morgan (Becky) of Nevada; one niece, Donna LiVolsi; and two great nephews, Morgan and Kyle LiVolsi.
The family would like to acknowledge Betty’s other family, her current coworkers and owners, Jason Herndon, Kenneth Herndon, Wendy Reedy, Radar Adams, Frederick D. Austin, Randall S. Beck, Randy Boggs, Christopher G. Boyd, Kenneth W. Collins, Michael S. Culbertson, James M. Deel, Eddie Dotson, Jamie Edwards, Edward O. Garrett, Jr., Justin Gilbert, Jason Hilborn, Gary L. Lane, Gary R. Lane, Scotty K. McCoy, Bradley S. Mullins, Michael W. Rhoades, Marc Richardson, Jimmy D. Spears, Jr., Kendall S. Sperow, and Bryan K. Wallace.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm – 7:00pm Monday, August 21, 2023, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave, W., Big Stone Gap.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery by 10:50am Tuesday.
