Piney Flats, TN/Appalachia, VA – Boyd Lee Williams, 83, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at Franklin Woods Community Hospital in Johnson City, TN.
Boyd lived most of his life in Appalachia, VA. He was a carpenter for Westmoreland Coal Company and owned Williams Excavating for many years. He loved model railroading and was a member of the Lonesome Pine Model Railroaders in Appalachia. He was a member of the Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Johnson City, TN.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Eureka Cleo “Susie” (Bouton) Williams; his parents, Ray and Virginia (Herron) Williams and his sister, Betty Ann Cook.
Boyd is survived by his children, Stephen and Leah Williams of Dandridge, TN, Tammy and Harold Coomer of Johnson City, TN and Toni and Randy Bowers of Johnson City, TN; his siblings, Herbert Williams (Nadine) of Appalachia, VA, Gladys Heatherly (Don) of Asheville, NC and Carolyn Cox (Jim) of Big Stone Gap, VA; his grandchildren, Brandon Coomer, Haley Harris (Steven) and Spencer Williams; step-grandchildren, Kaytlin Lowery and Trey Burks; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 28, 2024 from 6:00-7:30pm at New Hope Assembly Church, 1405 1st Ave E, Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral service will begin at 7:30pm with Pastor Curtis Hurt officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at 10:00am in American Legion Cemetery, 5015 Powell Valley Road, Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends will gather at Gilliam Funeral Home to leave at 9:20 to travel in procession to the cemetery. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
