Carl Edward Hood
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”
Carl Edward Hood, 76, of Lynchburg, VA, went home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2023, following complications from surgery.
Carl was a private man who was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend. Although a recent resident of Lynchburg, he loved Big Stone Gap, VA in the mountains of Southwest Virginia where he grew up, worked and raised his family.

Early in his career, he went to work for Westmoreland Coal Company in the Engineering Dept. and then as a Mine Superintendent for several of their mines, with his longest tenure at Holton Mine. After leaving mining, he enjoyed a career in the timber industry.
Carl was preceded in death by his father, Hubert; his mother, Betty; and his brother, John Dennis.
He is survived by Darinda (Lockhart), his wife of 48 years; his children, Jarrod (Michaux) of Charlottesville, VA, and Laura (Shane) Weeks of Lynchburg, VA; four precious granddaughters, Corrina Louise Hood; Norah Kate, Lillian Alyse, and Cambria Grace Weeks; nephew, Wes Hood, niece Carmen Tate; several special cousins, grand-nieces and nephews; and dear relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W., Big Stone Gap, VA from 11 AM-1 PM, followed by a service with Jim Belcher officiating. A private graveside service will be held immediately afterwards.
