Charles R. "Charlie" Morgan

Big Stone Gap, Va.-Charles R. “Charlie” Morgan, 86, passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap, Va.
He was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap. He played football for Big Stone Gap High School. Charlie proudly served his country in the U. S. Army as a military policeman. He worked with Appalachian Oil Co. for 30 years and was a security guard for Lonesome Pine Hospital for six years. He loved hunting, fishing and watching Western’s, especially Gunsmoke. He was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ella (Banks) Morgan; his father, Charles Mitchell Morgan; his mother, Inez Gertrude (Peters) Harris; step-son, Gary Keith Wynn; and step-daughter, Yvonne Wynn.
Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Mary Ann Morgan; son, Charles Morgan, Jr.; daughter, Danielle Maness, all of Big Stone Gap; grandchildren, Alexander Walker Maness, Jacob Ethan Maness, Ryan Tompkins and Hailey Tompkins; and a cousin Teresa Boardwine.
The family will receive friends 1:00pm – 2:00pm Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, E., Big Stone Gap, Va. The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Pastor Ronald Polly officiating.
Military rites, by local VFW and DAV members and the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team, will follow at the Glencoe Cemetery Mausoleum.
