Danny Joseph Hawkins

Pound, Va.-Danny Joseph Hawkins, 50, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital following complications from a stroke.
He was born January 29, 1974 in Pound, Va., the son of the late Helen Hawkins Harriger and Daryl Mullins. Danny graduated from Clintwood High School and obtained an associate degree in criminal justice from Mountain Empire Community College. He then attended Southwest Virginia Criminal Justice Academy to become a certified Law Enforcement Officer. Danny never wanted to leave the Southwest Virginia area. He was proud to serve and stay close to home so he could take care of his mother, Helen. Danny was a proud law enforcement officer with the Town of Pound Police Department for 15 years. Most of that was spent as the School Resource Officer at Pound High School and J. W. Adams Combined School. Danny loved working with and interacting with the students. He was a big kid at heart and was more a member of the student body than an enforcer of the rules.
In addition to his mother and father, Danny was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Oscar and Julia Moore Hawkins of Clintwood, Va.
Danny is survived by his wife of 24 years, Amanda Hawkins and their three children, Daniel Joseph, Kaitlyn Elizabeth and Mackenzie Danielle, all of Pound; two brothers, Tim Bolling of Lawton, Ok. and Duane Harriger of Riverdale, Mich.; a sister, Sofia Kahlid of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a niece, Courtney Bolling of Lawton, Ok.
The family will receive friends 1:00pm – 3:00pm Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W., Big Stone Gap, Va.
At the request of Danny, cremation will follow the visitation.
Gilliam Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the Hawkins family.
