Big Stone Gap, VA – David E. Kelley, 83, was a light to all who knew him. He was taken by the angels on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at Norton Community Hospital, Norton, VA. He enjoyed fast cars and all types of racing. In his younger years, he loved “hot rods” with a passion for “fast cars”. He was a top-notch person and always friendly. He was in the UMWA for many years, becoming president of his local. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of Robinette Chapel Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap, VA. He will be deeply missed and loved by us all.
He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Kelley, Sr.; his mother, Rosa Kathlene Kelley; his siblings, Everett Kelley, Ruby Mae Collins and Paul Kelley, Jr., and his son, David “Buddy” Kelley, Jr.
David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy Kelley; children, Lisa Mullins, Vicky & Andy Ramey, Charles Phipps, Kenny & Sandra Kelley, Brett & Caroline Douglas, and Tammy & Mark Yates; sisters, Pearly Murray and Beulah & Ramond Davidson; special nieces, Linda Ketron and Cathy Craft, several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 4:00-6:00pm at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral service will begin at 6:00pm with Bro. Adam Swinney ministering.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11:00am in Kelley Cemetery, 400 Dogwood Drive, Big Stone Gap, VA. Family and friends are asked to assemble at Gilliam Funeral Home by 10:30am to travel in procession to the cemetery. Family members and friends will serve as pallbearers.
