Appalachia, VA-David Shawn Spears, Sr., 55, passed away on Friday, June 23, 2023, at his home.
He was born in Las Cruces, NM and lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap and Appalachia, Va. He worked for 23 years as a coal miner and had been a truck driver for the past several years, including his present employer, NFI Trucking.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Gail Elaine Embach; brother, Paul Smith; and his uncle, Larry Spears.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie Kay Spears; children, Brittany Durham (Josh) and David Shawn Spears, Jr., both of Seminary, Va.; Andrea Ann Abney (Raymond), Appalachia, Va. and Justin Lee White (Micah) of Florida; siblings, Billy Spears, Pennington Gap, Va. and Mary Sappington of California; nine grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Doug and Anna Baker, “Bear” Barnette, Ben “Peanut Butter” Marx and “Pup” Fields.
