Della Mae Snodgrass

Keokee, Va./Englewood, OH-Della Mae Snodgrass, beloved mother, grandmother, friend, and community member, passed away on June 19, 2025 at the Hospice House of Dayton, Ohio. Born on June 11, 1947, Della brought warmth, wisdom, and laughter to the lives of everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Della was known for her generous spirit, fierce wit, and for being the light in every room she entered. She dedicated herself to serving Christ, including most recently at the First Light Church in Vandalia, Ohio, where she served in the women’s group and as a member of the widow’s support club. She also took great pride in supporting the Democratic party and was an avid gardener, thrifter, and prankster. In fact, if she could visit a Goodwill and manage to find things to improve her garden and help her fool someone good and proper, it was the best day ever—especially if the person being fooled happened to be a Republican. But it was all in good fun.
She is survived by her daughter, Marsha Meadows and husband, Loren; grandson Bill McDonald and wife, Emily; granddaughter Samantha Weizman, and husband, Lincoln; sister-in-law Lisa Whisman and husband, Jeff; great-grandchildren Hailee, Harper, Roman, Louie, and Sofia, all of whom she loved more than life itself; and a host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, cousins, and friends.
Today, Della is rejoicing in Heaven with those who preceded her, including her mother, Mary; sister, Evelyn; brother, Marshall Woodard; and her beloved husband, Bobby Snodgrass. Before she passed, Della expressed her great excitement to once again see the love of her life. Theirs was a love story to rival any, and she never felt truly complete without him by her side. Undoubtedly, Bobby was standing by Jesus’s side as the first to welcome Della to paradise.
Her light may have dimmed here on Earth, but it shines forever in our hearts. The unquestioned “master of pranks” now retires undefeated, and Della’s family would like to wish the angels in Heaven the best of luck. To all who may mourn for her, Della would mostly offer the same advice she gave to the cars trying to drive around her while she watched fireworks from the middle of the road: “Keep it moving, people!”
Moving on is difficult for all who knew and inevitably loved Della, but we all celebrate that she is now fully and completely happy with her friends, family, and Lord. We look forward to seeing her again.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, June 22 from 1-2pm at the Gilliam Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. A celebration of life will follow at 2pm with graveside services to follow at Edens Cemetery in Keokee, Va. Pallbearers will be: Lincoln Weizman, Derek Whisman, Cody Bentley, Billy McDonald, Jake Hartman and Jeff Whisman.
Gilliam Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve Mrs. Snodgrass’ family.
