Big Stone Gap, VA-Doris Tate Gibson, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. She was born in Dunbar, Virginia, and moved to Crackers Neck at a young age, where she remained for the rest of her life.
Doris was a licensed cosmetologist who owned and operated her own beauty shop for many years, until the COVID-19 pandemic. Through her work, she built lasting friendships and touched the lives of many.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Edward “James Edd” Gibson Sr.
Surviving are her three children and their spouses, James Edward Gibson Jr. (Wayne Morgan), John David Gibson (Terri Gibson), and Susan Gibson Myers (Rick Myers); and four grandchildren, John Gibson, Lori Gibson Carter, Brian Myers, and Kevin Myers.
She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Zoe, Hunter, Kennedy, and Levi, along with extended family members, Sue Cloud and Sudie White, and friends who will cherish her memory.
A graveside service will be announced at later date.
