Douglas Wayne Rogers
Big Stone Gap, Va.-Douglas Wayne “Doug” Rogers, 80, passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Specialty Select in Bristol, Tn.
He was born at Bonnie Blue, Va., lived in Hampton, Va. and Jasper, Va., but lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Navy, having served in the Vietnam War as a Radarman. He was a Carman for Norfolk-Southern Railroad for 33 years. Doug loved being a Boy Scout Leader for many years. He loved gardening, but he mainly enjoyed the time he spent with his grandkids. He was a member of Robinette Chapel Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap and attended Big Cut Baptist Church in Gate City, Va.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nickie Rogers; parents, Ed and Eudenia (Leigh) Rogers; and a sister, Dora Sue Flyth
Doug is survived by his wife of 55 years, Levena Sue Rogers; children, Charlie Rogers (Brittany Christian), Mandy McNutt (Jerry) and Pam Robinson (Sam), all of Big Stone Gap; four grandchildren, Dylan Rogers, Ethan Rogers, Katie McNutt and Lexi Rogers; a brother, Larry Rogers (Charlotte), Sebastian, Fla.; a sister, Brenda Lawson, Kingsport, Tn.; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 2:00pm – 4:00pm Sunday, June 2, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W., Big Stone Gap, Va. The service will follow at 4:00pm with Pastor Jerry Hensley officiating.
Military rites, accorded by the U. S. Navy Honors Team and local V. F. W. and D. A. V. posts, will be held 10:30am Monday, June 3, 2024, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:00am Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
