Enoch Garland Sloan
Big Stone Gap, Va.-Enoch Garland Sloan, 91, passed away on Thursday, March 9, 2023, at his home.
He was born and lived in Derby, Va. until he moved to Big Stone Gap in 2009. He was a retired coal miner with Stonega Coke and Coal Co. and a member of the U.M.W.A. Enoch loved woodworking and caring for his yard and garden, as well as fishing and camping.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie “Gig” (Chandler) Sloan; and son, Jack Sloan.
Surviving are his children, Brenda Stewart (Greg), Ben Hur, Va. and Eddie Sloan (Cathy), Jonesville, Va.; five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; brother, Howard Sloan (Patti), Big Stone Gap and Fredda Kemp, Monticello, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W., Big Stone Gap. The funeral will follow at 1:00pm with Rev. Owen Powers officiating.
Burial will follow in American Legion Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Dauntay Woods and Peter Wycoff, and his caregivers, Mary Wilder, Erin Whitt, Maggie Coker, Abram Litton and Chanda Davis.
