Big Stone Gap, Va.- Gene Monroe Chandler, Sr., born December 15, 1942 to the late Clay and Paralee Chandler, went to be with the Lord Friday, January 9, 2026, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap, VA. Gene was of the Pentecostal faith. He loved hunting, fishing, bluegrass music and the Dallas Cowboys.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Brenda D. Chandler; baby daughter, Donna Kaye Chandler; grandsons, Kevin Lee Bolling, Jr. and Austin Joseph Bolling; four brothers; four sisters and “Spankey” his little dog.
Gene is survived by children, Monroe Chandler (Jody) of Big Stone Gap, VA, Regina Bolling of Wise, VA, Debbie Hatfield (Jamey) of Appalachia, VA and Christy Allen (Derrick) of Appalachia, VA; grandchildren, Jason Hatfield (Alissa) of Big Stone Gap, VA, Brenda Hatfield of Appalachia, VA, Breanna Rentfrow (Bryan) of Norton, VA, Derrick Allen, Jr. of Big Stone Gap, VA, Jon Chandler (Brittany) of Norton, VA and Jasmine Mays (Justin) of Big Stone Gap, VA; great-grandchildren, Paityn and Oaklee Hatfield, Ethan and Anna Patton, Preslee, Breelyn, Hudson, Dawson and Taelyn Rentfrow, Anessa Bolling, Hallie and Lacie Chandler, and Luke and Caleb Mays; and several nieces and nephews. Gene will be truly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, January 12, 2026, at 2:00pm at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, 5650 Powell Valley Road, Big Stone Gap, VA. Evangelist Jamie Earnis will be ministering. Derrick Allen, Sr., Jonathan Chandler, Jason Hatfield, Derrick Allen, Jr., Brian Rentfrow and Monroe Chandler will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery by 1:50pm.
