Helen Ruth (Hall) Moreno (AKA MawMaw), born December 20, 1932, in Arno, Virginia, left her temporary home on this earth and moved into her eternal heavenly home on Friday, May 16, 2025. She was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Ralph F. Moreno; her daughter Frances Chafin; her father Ewell Hall, Sr.; and her mother Ida Hall.
She is survived by her daughter Ruthie (Buckles) Shortt and husband Steve; three grandchildren Michael (Bucky) Buckles, Jr., Hixson, TN; Chrissy Hurley and husband, Mark, Big Stone Gap; Dustin Buckles and wife, Brandy, Big Stone Gap; seven great grandchildren Katie, Brody, John Ryan, Taliah, Annie, Ivy, Ben; one great great-grandchild Oliver (whom she lovingly called “that sweet baby”); and her beloved puppy and companion, Suzy Q.
Her family and those friends that knew our MawMaw are invited to meet at Gilliam Funeral Home Monday, May 19, 2025, at 6:00 pm for a brief time of viewing.
A celebration of the life of this precious lady will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 10:30 am in the Powell Valley Gardens Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Big Stone Gap Food Bank or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
