Big Stone Gap, VA – Howard D Wells, 68, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026 at Holston Valley Medical Center.
A native of Big Stone Gap, he worked as the Maintenance Director at Heritage Hall in Big Stone Gap for many years. He lived a brief period in Florida, but mainly in Big Stone Gap. Howard was a hardworking individual. One winter, he walked from his home to Heritage Hall, in over 20 inches of snow, to make sure the building was running properly for the staff and residents. He loved hunting, fishing, reading and just being in the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He was a Christian.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vicki S. (Burns) Wells; parents, Claude Wells and Eula Sturgill Wells and one brother Jerry “Buddy” Wells.
He is survived by his children, Courtney Head and Jessica Wells, both of Big Stone Gap, VA; granddaughter, Anneliese Head and several nieces and nephews.
His wish was to be cremated.
