Jack Earl Fox
Big Stone Gap, Jack Earl Fox, 78, passed away peacefully at his home with loved ones by his side.
Jack was born in Oak Ridge, TN and has lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap. He retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad Co. and then returned to work at Holston Defense as a train engineer. He proudly served in the Virginia Army National Guard. Jack loved to golf and tinker in his garage, where he could fix anything. He had a generous heart. Jack was a Christian.
Jack was preceded in death by his beloved son, Robbie Fox; his parents, Leon and Ruby (Anderson) Fox; brothers, David Fox and two infant brothers; and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Fox; his daughter, Leslie Mabe (Jerry), Wytheville, Va.; his son, Fred Fox (Jennifer), Big Stone Gap; grandchildren, Jacob Fox (Autumn) and Emma Fox; great grandchildren, Avery Wells, Carter Wells, Noelle Wells, Isaac Wells, Lucca Wells and Titus Wells; siblings, Bobby Fox, Plant City, Fla., Joe Fox and Danny Fox, both of Big Stone Gap, Carolyn Hall, Christiansburg, Va., Peggy Lance, Dayton, Ohio, Mary Nixon (Phillip), Coeburn, Va., Becky Smith (Lewis), Big Stone Gap and Kathy Fox, Appalachia, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm – 7:00pm Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, P. O. Box 886, Big Stone Gap, Va. The service will follow at 7:00pm with Pastor Wayne Thomas officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00am Friday at the American Legion Cemetery. The family and friends will meet at the cemetery by 10:45am.
