Big Stone Gap, VA-Jane Anne “Jan” Coughlin, 70, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at her home.
Born in Appalachia, Va., Big Stone Gap was always home for Jan. She was a 1974 graduate of Powell Valley High School, and she obtained her bachelors degree from ETSU. Jan worked for the Virginia Employment Commission in Norton, VA until her recent retirement. She loved making crafts, rummaging through thrift stores and listening to music. Jan loved all things about cats. She was a Christian and attended services at various churches in the Big Stone Gap area. She was a loving daughter, sister and aunt.
Preceding her in death was her parents, L. C. and Nina (Stauffer) Coughlin; brothers, Ronny Coughlin and Bob Coughlin.
Surviving are her sister, Kaye Mink, Big Stone Gap; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial graveside service will be announced at a later date.
