Jimmy Ray Collins
Modesto, Calif./Appalachia, Va.-Jimmy Ray Collins, 72, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025, at his home in Modesto, California.
He was born and raised in Appalachia, Va. He worked for Westmoreland Coal Co. until they left the area and then for Jim Walters Resources in Alabama, until his retirement. He loved landscaping, golfing, going to casinos and collecting coins. He also loved NASCAR and was an avid Alabama football fan. He was of Pentecostal faith and praised Jesus daily.
Jimmy was preceded in death by a son, Dwayne Collins; his parents, Conley and Venus (Coomer) Collins; the mother of his children, Jackie Collins; and siblings, Bill Collins, Kyle Collins, Sue Kinzer, Loretta Fannon, Charlie Collins, Roy Collins, Bobby Collins, Tom Collins and Frances Stacy.
Surviving are his wife, Lisa Collins, Modesto, Calif.; his son, Shawn Collins of Roda, Va.; three grandchildren, Brett Collins, Makayla Collins and Karah Dingus; six great grandchildren, Paxton, Carter, Asher, Amara, J. D. and Lainey; three sisters, Nancy Townsend (Roy) of Gate City, Va., Alice Collins, Tazewell, Tenn. and Roberta Collins of San Bernardino, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 11:00am – 1:00pm Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W, Big Stone Gap, Va. The service will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Roger Barker officiating.
Burial will follow in American Legion Cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
