Big Stone Gap, VA-Joyce Ann Thompson Hamilton, 71, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025, at the Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, TN, surrounded by her family.
Born in Pennington Gap, VA, Joyce lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap. She was a former child caregiver and always had an open-door policy to the needs of others. Joyce had a special place in her heart for caring of special needs children. She loved crocheting. She attended the Christian Life Center Church, when her health allowed.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Donald Matthew Hamilton; three sons, Howard Ray Hamilton, Timothy Guy Hamilton and Jackie Joe Hamilton; one daughter, Misty Dawn Hamilton; parents, Ray and Georgia (Oaks) Thompson; and one brother, Allen Thompson.
Surviving are three daughters, Tina Falin (Greg) and Tara Stone, both of Big Stone Gap, and Melissa Kendrick (Jason), Enterprise, AL; seven grandchildren, Cheyenne Kendrick, Haley Kendrick, Peyton Kendrick, Sieara Kendrick, Matthew Stone, Shawn Stone and Patrick “P.J.” Stone; two special grandchildren, Brantley Carroll and Addie Hall; one sister, Jennifer “Charlie” Thompson, Big Stone Gap; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 11:00am – 1:00pm on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W., Big Stone Gap. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 1:00pm with Lynette Stuart and Steve “Stork” Maddox ministering.
