Ken Hodge
Ken Hodge passed away at the age of 92, leaving behind the memories of a life well lived. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and proud son of Lee County, Virginia, Ken leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and deep love for family and home.
Born and raised in Woodway, Virginia, Ken left home at the age of 17 to begin his career in the United States Air Force. He faithfully served his country for 23 years, spending the first half of his military career as an aircraft/flightline mechanic for the Strategic Air Command and the second half as a flight engineer for the Military Airlift Command. Throughout his years of service, Ken was stationed at various bases across the southeastern United States. Alongside his dear wife Kay, he embraced military life, treasuring the opportunities to travel and the lifelong friendships formed along the way.
After retiring from the Air Force, Ken began a second career with the US Postal Service, where he served 20 years while continuing to provide for his young family. Though his work and military service took him to many places, there was always only one true home in his heart — Lee County, Virginia.
In 2000, Ken fulfilled a lifelong dream by purchasing property in Dryden and building a small home there. Returning to the hills and community he loved brought him great joy and peace. Being “back home” meant everything to him.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. and Vinnie R. Hodge; his brothers, Robert L. Hodges (Santella) and Damon Hodges; his beloved wife of 55 years, Kay G. Hodge; and his grandson, Taylor K. Hodge.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra J. Martin; sister-in-law, Peggy Hodges (Damon); daughters, Kendra Naugle and Tracy Diaz (Steve); son, Kasey Hodge (Joann); grandchildren, Tyler Hodge (Sarah), Gianna Gunn (Peyton), Nicole Smith (Clayton), and Trent Patterson (Amanda); and great-grandchildren, Paisley Hodge, Max Gunn, Talon Patterson, Ayla Patterson, and Rocker Smith.
Ken will be remembered for his dedication to family, his years of faithful service to his country and community, and the deep love he carried for the place he always called home.
A family service will be held in Florida at a later date.
