Big Stone Gap, Va. Louise (Tootie) Galloway Cress, 84, of the Strawberry Patch Community passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Norton Community Hospital. She was of the Holiness faith and is now with her savior. She was a true prayer warrior for anyone who needed prayers or just for someone to listen to them. She was born on September 16, 1939 to Otis & Nora Galloway. At the age of 5 months her mother passed away and she was adopted by her aunt & uncle, John & Roxie Grindstaff.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Bobby Cress; her parents and her siblings, Keaster (Bud) Grindstaff, Betty Sturgill, Delmar Penley, Otis Galloway, Jr., Eddie Galloway, Jerry Galloway, Debbie Starnes and her twin brother, Louis Galloway.
She is survived by her children, Pat Chandler (Jerry), Robert Cress, Jr., (Patty), Johnny Cress (Donna), Michael Cress & Donald Cress; her sister, Lou Edens; a special niece and nephew, Doris Hamilton (Joe), who was like a daughter to her, and Ed Hall (Sherri); seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W, Big Stone Gap. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Eddie Clifton, Rev. Jimmy Hammonds and Rev. Leonard Dixon officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at American Legion Cemetery immediately following the funeral service. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
