Dandridge, Tenn./Big Stone Gap, Va.-Lowell E. Dickenson, 84, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2024, at Newport Medical Center, Newport, Tenn.
He lived most of his life in the Crackers Neck community of Big Stone Gap and had resided in Dandridge, Tenn. for the past ten years. Lowell was a mining engineer with Westmoreland Coal Company for over 25 years. He loved fishing, fishing and more fishing. Lowell sang with the Wilson Trio for 20 years. His love of singing was a great joy to many throughout his life. He was a member of Durham’s Chapel/Cedar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church in Crackers Neck. He loved life and never met a stranger. His love of God, his precious June, and his family were the most important things in his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June (Smith) Dickenson; parents, Herman and Ruby (Shoop) Dickenson; and brother, Larry Dickenson.
Surviving are his three daughters, Kim Blanken (Brian), Dandridge, Tenn., Carmen Talley (Danny), Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Cindy Hayden (Hersh, Jr.), Duffield, Va.; grandchildren, Melissa Barczak (Jeff), Travis Kilgore, Randi Jackson (Joshua), Hailey Kilgore and Charley Talley; great grandchildren, Brayden Barczak, Ava Barczak, Slate Jackson and Eli Borum; sisters, Nancy Oney, Bowling Green, Ky. and Glenda Southers, Kingsport, Tenn.; brother, Garry Dickenson (Irene Clark), Big Stone Gap, Va.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Deanna McKinney.
The family will receive friends 12 noon – 1:00pm Sunday, January 14, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W., Big Stone Gap, Va. A graveside service will follow at 1:30pm Sunday at Barker Cemetery in Crackers Neck. There will be a procession from the funeral home to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Brian Blanken, Danny Talley, Hersh Hayden, Jr., Jeff Barczak, Brayden Barczak, Chad Dickenson and Joshua Jackson.
