Big Stone Gap, Va.-Marjorie Sue Hansel, 82, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Ballad Hospice House in Bristol, Tn., with her family surrounding her.
Born in Shields, Ky, she lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap. She loved helping others, including working with the Oak Grove Baptist Church Soup Kitchen. She loved quilting, sewing, manicures and pedicures. Sue loved and was dedicated to her family. She was of Baptist faith and loved Bible study.
Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Dean Hansel; her parents, Samuel and Evla (Johnson) Shackleford; and siblings, Joe Shackleford, Kay Shackleford and Dink Shackleford.
Surviving are her daughter, Ronda Collier and her husband, Rev. Alan Collier, Norton, Va.; son, David Hansel and his partner, Trevon Peiris, Bridgewater, NJ; grandsons, Aaron Collier (Shauna), and Joe Collier; great granddaughter, Meredith Jane Collier; siblings, Mary Ann Palmer (Mike), Brenda Clifton (Sam) and Tony Shackleford (Sherry), all of Big Stone Gap, and Jan Scarborough (George) of Guyton, Ga.; nieces and nephews, Samantha Reid (Sam), Katie Shackleford, Sam Shackleford (Amber) and Tony Reid; special children, Hannah Wilson, Brayden Spears, Canaan Spears and Cody Tackett; special friend, Pam Ellis; and her movie buddy and her girl, Willow Grace Tackett.
The family will receive friends 1:00pm – 3:00pm on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave, W., Big Stone Gap. The service will follow at 3:00pm with Rev. Alan Collier and Aaron Collier officiating.
Entombment service will follow at the Glencoe Cemetery Mausoleum.
Pallbearers will be: Aaron Collier, Ned Spears, Trevon Peiris, Sam Reid, Tony Reid and Brayden Spears. Honorary pallbearers will be: Joe Collier, Mike Palmer, Sam Clifton, George Scarborough and Tony Shackleford.
