Mary Louise Setzler Kirby

Big Stone Gap, Va.-Mary Louise Setzler Kirby, 68, was born on May 20, 1955. She left peacefully for her Heavenly Home on November 1, 2023.
Mary was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Powell Valley Ward. She was fun-loving, enjoyed her church calls and had flowerbeds full of iris, daylilies, and small dogs.
As a child, Mary lived in Pomaria, South Carolina where she loved to spend time with her Grandmother Setzler in “that big white house.” Then, she moved to Pennington Gap, Va. with her parents where her father, a local doctor, was instrumental in helping Lee County, Va. get their own hospital. Her Grandmother Fry was also a big part of Mary’s life as she grew up.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George Breaker Setzler and Mary Helen Fry; her husband, Jesse Macon Kirby; and daughter, Shannon Nicole Setzler.
Mary is survived by her sweet church family and a great many church missionaries whom she teased and fed. She has also left behind many friends, including Elizabeth Jones and Victora Eldridge; and her extended family.
A memorial service will be held 3:00pm on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3153 2nd Ave, E., Big Stone Gap, Va., with Barry Ison presiding.
A graveside service will be conducted at a future date, to be announced, in the Summer of 2024 in the Pomaria Cemetery, Pomaria, SC.
