Mary Sue Black
Keokee, VA - Mary Sue (Helton) Black age 71 passed away surrounded by her family on March 31, 2026.
Mary was born on December 30th, 1954 to Otha and Eula Helton in Harlan KY. She grew up in Ages Ky and lived the last 54 years in Keokee VA.
Mary was proceeded in death by one son, Michael Helton; her parents Otha and Eula Helton, and 2 brothers, Zeke Helton and Bobby Slusher.
Mary attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Keokee VA, and was a member of the Church Of God for 40 years. She was an amazing granny. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy in life. She loved going to the beach, and collecting way too many shells, sitting in the edge of the water and watching the sunrise. She enjoyed fishing as much as living and was her favorite past time. Above all, her favorite thing was just being with family. Her love for God was steadfast as was her love for her family.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Tommy James Black, Jr.; son, Tommy Black, III (Chasity Holden), Pensacola FL; daughter Elizabeth (Jimmy) Taylor, Keokee VA; 4 grandsons, Randall Helton, Huff Settlement KY, Craig (Christina) Harvel, Dryden VA, Jacob (Megan) Taylor, Lebanon VA, Nate Taylor Keokee VA and 4 great grandchildren, Abigail Harvel, Sophia Harvel, Elijah Harvel, and Samuel Harvel.
Per her request Mary will be cremated by Gilliam Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held on April 8th, at 11a.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Keokee VA with Pastor Bill Hughes, and Steve Hughes speaking. A fishing expedition, and cookout will follow at Keokee Lake for all who would like to celebrate one last fishing day in remembrance of Mary.
