Mary Susan Giles

Big Stone Gap, Va.-Mary Susan Giles, 87, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap.
She was born in Millstone, Ky., the daughter of the late John and Susan (Adams) Long. She lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap, where she and her husband Gene raised their children. She was very proud to work as a poll worker in Wise County for many elections throughout the years. Mary Susan loved playing the piano and having her children gather round to sing. She loved the arts and participated in local choirs. Mary Susan loved trivia, crossword puzzles and watching Jeopardy. She attended First Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap.
Mary Susan was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Bascom Eugene “Gene” Giles; grandson, Tyler Giles; daughter-in-law, Lisa Showalter Giles; and brothers, Daryl Long and Danny Long.
Surviving are her children, Michael Giles (Nancy); Sherry Giles Potter (Preston), Lisa Gaye Giles, John Giles (Pam), Jody Giles and Todd Giles (Tina); grandchildren, Melissa Potter Reifert (Josh), Chad Potter (Brittany), Brent Giles (Meagan), Mandy Giles Crowder (Will), Trevor Giles, Jordan Giles, Jace Giles and Bethany Giles; great grandchildren, Cade Potter, Camryn Potter, Emma Giles and Noah Giles; brother, Bill Long; several nieces and nephews; and her special friend, Rachel Breeding.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nursing and support staff of Heritage Hall Healthcare in Big Stone Gap for their loving care of their mother.
The family will receive friends 5:00pm – 7:00pm Monday, April 22, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W., Big Stone Gap. The service will follow at 7:00pm with the Rev. Timothy Robinson officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted at 10:30am on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. The family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 9:50am Tuesday to go in procession.
Members of Mary Susan’s family will serve as pallbearers.
