Big Stone Gap, VA-Neal Junior Simmons, 94, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020 at his home.

      A native of West Virginia, Neal lived in Big Stone Gap for many years. He worked as a serviceman on medical equipment.  He was a U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II.  Neal was a loyal greeter and member of Cedar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church in the Crackers Neck Community.

      He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy “Dottie” Simmons; father, Neal Simmons; and mother, Clara Gilliam Lantz.

      He is survived by his daughter, Donna McElhiney (James), Madison, AL; son, Terry Simmons (Carol), Rural Hall,  NC;  grandchildren, Jonathon Neal Castle, Stephanie Nicole Brookus, Jeremy Tyrone Simmons, Terri Denise Tedder; and several great grandchildren.

      Burial will be private at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens with Pastor James Ray Holcomb officiating.

      In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Quilts of Valor Foundation, P. O. Box 191, Winterset, IA 50273, please designate for Virginia Highlands Group #17089.
