Otis Doyle "Richard" Lane Jr

Big Stone Gap, Va.-Otis Doyle “Richard” Lane, Jr., 77, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family and close friends.
He was a lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap. He proudly served in the U. S. Army in Vietnam. He worked as coal miner with Westmoreland Coal Co., Holton Mine. He was a member of the U.M.W.A. Richard, as he was affectionately known, also worked as a carpenter, electrician and a farmer. He loved to hunt, fish and read Western novels. He was a Christian.
Richard was preceded in death by one son, Jack Steven Blanton, Jr.; grandson, Zachary Lane; parents, Otis D., Sr. and Margaret Geneva (Willis) Lane; and siblings, Buddy Lane and Geraldine Sproles.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Ethel Lane; children, Cheryl Burgio (Matteo), White Plains, NY; Richard Lane (Mistti), Big Stone Gap, Dennis Lane (Kim), Durham, NC, Jeremy Boggs, Keokee, Va. and Laura Logan (Shannon), Big Stone Gap; grandchildren, Steven Lane, Cassidy Lane, Lucy Bella, Nathan Blanton, Joshua Blanton and Gennesis Dean; great grandchildren, Gilbert Lane, Sawyer Lane and Ella Lane; one sister, Phyllis Reed, Kingsport, Tn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff, family and friends for all their professional assistance, food, compassion and love during his extended illness.
The family will receive friends 10:00am – 11:00am Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, Va. Military rites, by local V.F.W. and D.A.V. posts and the Virginia Army National Guard Honors Team, will be held at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. The celebration of his life will follow with Robbie Reece and Barry Reed officiating.
