Patricia Anita Fisher, 76, of Appalachia, VA , passed away on July 8th, 2025, at Johnson City Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer.
Anita was born on August 26, 1948 in Exeter, VA to Clyde and Helen Hopkins. She graduated from Appalachia High School, class of 1967, and went on to be the owner/operator of the Shawnee Beauty Salon in Big Stone Gap for a number of years. She embarked on a second career in the banking industry until her retirement in 2008. Anita enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family and friends after retirement.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell K. Fisher and her parents, Lacy Clyde Hopkins and Margaret Helen (Clark) Hopkins. She is survived by her sons, Brandon Fisher and Justin Fisher, her sister Margaret Sue Smith, grandsons Brady Fisher and Blake Fisher, Lisa Fisher, special nephew Dustin Smith, special niece Leslie Robinson and several extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Monday, July 14, 2025 from 11:00am – 1:00pm at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave. W., Big Stone Gap, VA. The funeral service will begin at 1:00pm in the chapel with Pastor Sean Bailey officiating. Burial will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SWVA Cancer Center, Norton, VA in Anita’s memory.
