Norton, Va.-Patricia Drummond Ross Absher, 69, departed this life on Monday, January 8, 2024.
She was the daughter of the late Ray G. and Patricia (Drummond) Ross. Patty was born in Holden, W. Va., and grew up in Norton. She attended All Saints’ Episcopal Church and graduated from John I. Burton High School in the Class of 1972. After earning a bachelor degree in education and a master’s degree in Interior Design at Virginia Tech, she worked in the retail design trade before beginning a long career in education. She taughtat Georgia Southern University, Norton Elementary School and John I. Burton High School before retiring in 2012.
Patty was a beloved wife and devoted to her family. She loved the young people she taught.
She will be remembered as an avid gardener and a lover of all animals.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Andrew Moore and his wife, Kathy; her sister, Peggy Russell; her niece, Elizabeth Sturgill; and by her great niece, Emily Sturgill.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Greg Absher of Norton and his children, Hannah Miller (Adam) and Amy Ferguson (Chad), and several grandchildren; a sister, Sharon (Ross) Childress and husband Dennis of Vansant, Va.; brother-in-law, Kelly Russell of LaFollette, Tn.; and by many nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held by the family.
