Richard A. “Dickie” Falin

Derby, Va.-Richard A. “Dickie” Falin, 68, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021, at the Johnson City Medical Center, after an extended illness.
Richard was a resident of the Derby community in Appalachia, Va. He was a graduate of Appalachia High School, a retired coal miner with Westmoreland Coal Co., and a member of the U. M. W. A. He was a member of the Big Stone Gap Masonic Lodge #208. Dickie attended the Dunbar Community Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, B. Edward and Lois Ann Falin; and his brother, Carl Wayne Falin.
Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Deborah Clark Falin; sons, Jason (Kelly) of Vinton, Va. and Brian (Melissa) of Appalachia, Va. Also surviving are his grandchildren and step grandchildren who were so special to him, Austin Falin, Kaylyn Laws (Michael), Jacob Falin, Justin Falin, Ethan Mullins, Alex Collins, Terry Mitchell and Ragan Moody. Additionally, Richard was blessed with two great grandchildren, Arthur Laws and Viola Collins. Other surviving family members include sisters, Connie Kilbourne (George), Judy Morse, and Mary Miller (Dennis); brother, Dave Falin; and several nieces and nephews.
Richard will be remembered by his family and friends as a hard-working and loving husband, father, brother, friend and Pop Pop. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his family and neighbors. Richard loved his family unconditionally and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dunbar Community Church, 6053 Dunbar Road, Appalachia, Va. 24216.
