Richard Allen Griffin

Big Stone Gap, Va.-Richard Allen Griffin, 63, passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport, Tn.

      A lifelong resident of Big Stone Gap, Richard was a 1975 graduate of Powell Valley High School.  He was a tanker driver for Southwest Oil Co., APPCO, and Childers Oil Co., for over 40 years.  Richard loved to work on and ride his Harley motorcycle.  

      He was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Allen Griffin, Jr.; parents, Eunice and Lotus (Neeley) Griffin, Sr.; brother, Paul Griffin; and a niece, Sonya Griffin.

      Richard is survived by his wife of 13 years, Charlotte (Lane) Griffin; sister, Peggy Griffin Von Weimer, Arlington, Va.; brother, Eunice Griffin, Jr. (Gloria), Prince George, Va.; several nieces and nephews; a special sister-in-law, Ellen Nickels; stepsons, Steve Lawson, Big Stone Gap and Hank Lawson, Exeter, Va.; and step grandchildren, Cody Lawson, Atlanta, Ga. and Cheyenne Lawson, Gray, Tn.

      The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Avenue, W., Big Stone Gap, Va.  Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. James Holcomb officiating.  

      A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at American Legion Cemetery.  The family and friends will meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

      The pallbearers will be:  Steve Lawson, Hank Lawson, Cody Lawson, Jeff Galloway, Eddie Galloway and Dallas Sturgill.
