Big Stone Gap, Va.-Robert Wayne “Bob” Sturgill, Sr., 67, passed away Monday, May 5, 2025, at Norton Community Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born in Dayton, OH, he lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap. He was a coal miner and HVAC technician. Bob was a jack of all trades and was known by many for his generosity to assist his fellow neighbors with just about anything needed. Bob adored his grandchildren and family was everything to him. He also loved gardening. He was of Baptist faith.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorothy (Palmer) Sturgill, Sr.; and a sister, Lisa Kay Sturgill.
Surviving are his son, Robert Wayne Sturgill, Jr. (Mary), Norton, Va.; daughter, Jodi Lynn Underwood (Nelson), Big Stone Gap, Va.; four grandchildren, Jill Sturgill, Jack Sturgill, Lukas Sturgill, and Xoey Underwood; one great grandson, Axel Kilgore; siblings, Cathy Orr (Bob), Carl Ray Sturgill, Jr. (Robin), David Randolph Sturgill (Marie), and Samuel Richard Sturgill, all of Big Stone Gap; numerous nieces and nephews; mother of his children, Kay Sturgill, Big Stone Gap and his companion, Lisa Mullins.
The family will receive friends 5:00pm – 7:00pm Monday, May 12, 2025, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave, W., Big Stone Gap, Va. The memorial service will follow at 7:00pm with Rev. Brad Stapleton officiating. Bob requested cremation.
