Shelby Jean Puleo

Big Stone Gap, Va.-Shelby Jean Puleo, 84, passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield, Va.
He was born in Greensboro, Ala. and lived most of her life there. She had resided in Big Stone Gap, with her daughter, Sherrie, for three years. She was a former Correctional Officer for the State of Alabama Prison System. While in Virginia, Shelby attended Zion Baptist Church in the Wildcat Community of Big Stone Gap.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Orlando Puleo; two daughters, Debra Hall and Pamela Gwyn DeFoor; her father, Hobson Arvis Coleman; mother, Ollie Mae Russell Ivey and a brother, Larry Ivey.
Surviving are her children, Philip Puleo (Myra) and Sherrie Dalton, both of Big Stone Gap; Oscar Lee DeFoor, Pinellas Park, Fla. and BenLe Eugene Krueger, Hamilton, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Thomas Arvis Coleman (Rexanna), Courtland, Ala. and Johnny Ivey, Banks, Ala.; two sisters, Mary Lou Stafford, Aurora, Ill. and Betty Washburn (Rick), of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 11:00am – 1:00pm Saturday, February 4, 2023, at Gilliam Funeral Home, 618 Wood Ave., W., Big Stone Gap, Va.
Mrs. Puleo will be taken to Hamilton Funeral Service in Hamilton, Ala. where services will be conducted. Arrangements in Alabama are incomplete at this time.
