Sherry Lynn Delp Giles

Sherry Lynn Delp Giles, 74, of Big Stone Gap, unexpectedly went home with Jesus on Tuesday, December 5th ,2023. She was surrounded by her family as she entered her Heavenly home where she joined her father, KP Delp, and her mother, June Delp, who preceded her.
She was born on December 10, 1948 and grew up with her sister, Bernita Jervis, and many close cousins in the Coal Camps of Southwest Virginia, a fact of which she was very proud. She graduated from Appalachia High School and went on to Clinch Valley College. After college, she spent many years working for William Sturgill and his family, all of whom she greatly admired.
She worked at First Choice Home Health in Norton, Virginia, where she considered her coworkers to be family. She was a longtime member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap serving alongside a loving church family as a Sunday School teacher for many years and recently as treasurer. She was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Norton where she enjoyed spending time and volunteering. These groups made up an extended family of which she spoke highly.
Most of all, Sherry enjoyed her time with family who were blessed with her company and laughter. She is survived by her sons Jarrod Giles and Travis Giles (Allison), her sister and best friend, Bernita Jervis (David), nieces/nephews Josh Jervis (Angie), Gabe Jervis (Trish), Abbi Dickenson, Brayden Jervis, Tanner Jervis and Johnny Giles, cousins who were like sisters Sue Smith and Anita Fisher, close family Julia Giles and David Giles as well as Jasie’s mother, Sierra, and many cousins and extended family who were blessed to know her.
Sherry is also survived by her favorites, her grandchildren. She was Granny Sherry to Charlie Giles, Claire Giles and Jasie Giles. Charlie was her helper who was always ready to do anything she asked. Claire and Jasie were her girls who accompanied her to get their nails painted on their many girl days.
Services will be held Saturday, December 9th at 2:00 PM at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap followed by burial at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, Sherry would have preferred donations be made to King’s Christian Academy at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap.
Gilliam Funeral Home and crematory is honored to serve the Giles family. Visit www.gilliamfuneralhome.com to view obituaries.
