Seagrove, NC-Vernie Aline Smith, 83, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at her home.
She was born in Wise County, Virginia to the late Ralph Charles McCoy and Maria Glenna (Farmer) McCoy. Aline was an office administrator for a t. v. cable company and Robinette Steel in Big Stone Gap. In 1996 she and her husband moved from Big Stone Gap, Va. to Seagrove, NC. She was a Christian. Aline just recently said, “Jesus, Jesus, I love you with my whole heart.”
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Wayne McCoy.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Larry Wayne Smith; daughters, Deborah Lynn Smith Felix and husband Rick, Jamestown, NC and Lisa Diane Smith Baker, Seagrove, NC; son, Jeffery Wayne Smith and wife Janet, Big Stone Gap, Va.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; siblings, Billy Joyce Moody, Gray, Ga., Connie Jean Sullivan, Coeburn, Va. and Herbert McCoy, Dungannon, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and her aunt, Helen Franks and her husband Wayne, Coeburn, Va.
The family will receive friends 2:30pm – 3:00pm Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The service will begin at 3:00pm with Pastor Wayne Hager officiating.
