Wise, Va.-Wallace Clay Gilliam, 71, a lifelong resident of Wise, VA, passed on at Johnson City Medical Center on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
Wallace Clay “Pete” loved to read the Bible and tell stories from his youth and his days in the US Army to anyone that would listen. Especially to his children and grandchildren. He was a retired coal miner and, along with his wife, owned, Video World video stores. He was an avid lover of the outdoors as he loved to farm, garden and take care of animals. His kind soul touched many hearts. He will be truly missed by his family, friends and community.
Wallace is survived in death by his beautiful and loving wife of 50 years, Kathy Gilliam; his daughters, Brandi Wells (Mark) of Kingsport, TN and Jessica Gilliam of Wise, VA; his sisters, Freida Harris (John) of Coeburn, VA, Kay Buchanan (Jimmy) of Elizabethton, TN and Judy Glenn of Wildwood, FL; his brother, Wendell Adkins (Joyce) of Wise, VA; and his two grandchildren, Olivia Marie Wells and Tyler Clay Shelton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harmon Hampton Gilliam and Florence Etta Powers Gilliam; his sister, Sarah Ruth “Boone” Gilliam Prichard; and his brothers, Steve Gilliam, Elmer Gilliam, Arthur Nile Gilliam and Bill Adkins.
Wallace will be laid to rest at his family cemetery in Pound, VA. His Celebration of Life will be held at Bethel Chapel in Wise, VA, Friday, January 13, 2022 at 6:00pm. Please send all condolences to Wallace Gilliam P.O. Box 3254, Wise, VA 24293.
